We are Cristy Marrero and Ana Flores, and this is the first episode of Her Wisdom Era, a podcast for Latinas in midlife who are ready to start becoming.
In this episode, we go all the way in. Ana tells the story of the moment she found herself on a cold floor in Oaxaca, feverish, sobbing, her body finally giving out after years of holding together a company she built for other women while she was disappearing inside it. She sold it. And then she had to face something she wasn’t prepared for: losing her entire identity. Cristy talks about the woman she spent decades performing, the perfect editor, the one who made it in NYC and therefore owed something to everyone who sacrificed so she could be here, and the moment she realized her job was never fully her calling.
We talk about what midlife actually means when nobody in your culture gave you language for this season, why we left girlboss and hustle culture behind, the toxic standard that had us carrying everything while making it look like nothing, and what happens when you finally stop shrinking and start choosing yourself.
